Professor Sonu Bedi has been teaching courses on the Constitution and political theory at Dartmouth College since January 2007. A distinguished scholar and educator, he is the author of four acclaimed books, including Private Racism (2019), Rejecting Rights (2009), Beyond Race, Sex, and Sexual Orientation: Legal Equality without Identity (2013), all published by Cambridge University Press, as well as Political Contingency (2007), co-edited and published by NYU Press. Professor Bedi’s research focuses on the intersection of law, identity, and equality, challenging traditional frameworks and exploring innovative approaches to legal theory. His work has appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals and numerous law reviews, contributing significantly to scholarly debates on constitutional law and political philosophy. In addition to his published works, Professor Bedi is currently engaged in a project titled, “The Science of the Constitution,” which seeks to apply empirical and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding constitutional principles. Professor Bedi is a sought-after voice in academic and public discourse on law and society, known for his rigorous analysis and thought-provoking insights.

Megan Carpenter is dean of the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law (UNH Law). She is an internationally known expert in intellectual property, with a focus on entrepreneurship, branding, and the arts. Before joining UNH Law, Dean Carpenter founded and co-directed the Center for Law and Intellectual Property at Texas A&M University School of Law, where she served as a professor of law and faculty director of three intellectual property and entrepreneurship clinical programs.Dean Carpenter has extensive experience in institution-building. Her talent for driving initiatives from concept to execution has helped to establish successful programs both within law schools and universities generally. She has spearheaded the creation of innovative academic programs, including experiential learning initiatives, joint degree programs, study abroad opportunities, regular conferences and symposia, certificate programs, and interdisciplinary programs with various colleges across university campuses. A hallmark of her leadership is a collaborative and student-centered approach.An accomplished scholar, Dean Carpenter has written extensively on intellectual property and innovation, including her book, Evolving Economies: The Role of Law in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Her work has appeared in the Hastings Law Journal, Fordham Law Review, Columbia Journal of Law & the Arts, Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment and Technology Law, and the Yale Journal of Human Rights and Development.She believes that learning thrives at the intersection of theory, policy, and practice. Her dedication to students and program development and her service to the university and the community have earned her numerous accolades, including the Texas A&M University System Distinguished Faculty Award, the President’s Grand Challenge Award, the Judith Kuhn & Stephen R. Alton Service Award, and the United States Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship Best Workshop Award. Throughout her career, she has engaged underserved communities – including early-stage entrepreneurs, musicians, and grassroots arts organizations – on intellectual property issues.Before her academic career, Dean Carpenter practiced law at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart (now K&L Gates), where she represented clients on a variety of intellectual property and technology-related matters.

Jeremy Fogel is the first Executive Director of the Berkeley Judicial Institute, a center at Berkeley Law School whose mission is to build bridges between judges and academics and to promote an ethical, resilient and independent judiciary. Prior to his appointment at Berkeley, he served as Director of the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, DC (2011-2018), as a United States District Judge for the Northern District of California (1998-2011), and as a judge of the Santa Clara County Superior (1986-1998) and Municipal (1981-1986) Courts. He was the founding Directing Attorney of the Mental Health Advocacy Project from 1978 to 1981 and was a national leader in promoting access to justice for people with chronic mental health issues. Judge Fogel has taught for the Federal Judicial Center since 2002 and was a lecturer at Stanford Law School, where he taught a course on the psychology of litigation, from 2003 until his relocation to Washington in 2011. He taught for the California Continuing Judicial Studies Program (CJSP) and California Judicial College from 1987 to 2010 and served on CJSP’s Curriculum Planning Committee for six years, including two as chair. He has served as a faculty member for legal exchanges on ethics, case management and intellectual property in approximately twenty foreign countries. During his tenure at the Federal Judicial Center, he oversaw the development of the Center’s first comprehensive, integrated curriculum for judicial branch education. Judge Fogel was a member of the Committee on Financial Disclosure of the Judicial Conference of the United States from 2004-2011; he chaired the subcommittee that developed the original platform and procedures for electronic filing of annual financial disclosure reports and laid the groundwork for online public access. As a California state court judge, he chaired the Judicial Ethics Committee and Judicial Discipline and Disability Committee of the California Judges Association, and he organized and led a confidential counseling program for judges facing disciplinary proceedings. He received his B.A. from Stanford University in 1971 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1974. Judge Fogel has received numerous accolades, including the Samuel E. Gates Litigation Award from the American College of Trial Lawyers for significant contributions to the litigation process, the President’s Award for Outstanding Service to the California Judiciary from the California Judges Association, and the Vanguard Award from the State Bar of California for notable contributions to intellectual property law. 11/24

Professor David A. Grenardo is an award-winning lawyer, educator, and scholar. Before transitioning to academia in 2011, he practiced law for nearly a decade, handling complex commercial litigation in California and Texas. He was also recognized for his exceptional pro bono work, earning accolades such as the Frank J. Scurlock Award from the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Civil Rights Project Pro Bono Champion award. In 2022, Grenardo joined the University of St. Thomas School of Law as a tenured professor and associate director of the Holloran Center for Ethical Leadership in the Professions. His articles have appeared in prestigious journals such as the Harvard Journal of Sports & Entertainment Law, the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics, and Pepperdine Law Review. He received the Warren E. Burger Prize awarded by the American Inns of Court for his article, “Civility Rules: Debunking the Major Myths Surrounding Mandatory Civility for Lawyers and Five Mandatory Civility Rules That Will Work.” For more than a decade, Professor Grenardo has been a leading advocate for mandatory civility in the legal profession, cementing his reputation as a pioneer in this critical area of legal ethics.

Professor Mark Lanterman is a recognized expert in cybersecurity and digital forensics. Before transitioning to the private sector, he served as a sworn member of the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Taskforce. With over 30 years of experience, he has provided expert testimony in more than 2,000 cases. Professor Lanterman is a faculty member at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, and has conducted training for members of the federal judiciary through the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, DC. He is also a professor in the Cybersecurity Program at the St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Notably, he has provided specialized training in digital evidence, computer forensics, and cyber security to the United States Supreme Court. He completed his postgraduate studies in cybersecurity at Harvard University and holds certification as a Seized Computer Evidence Recovery Specialist (SCERS) by the Department of Homeland Security. A member of the Sedona Conference Steering Committee on the Use of Artificial Intelligence, Professor Lanterman was recently appointed by the Arizona Supreme Court’s Steering Committee on the Use of Artificial Intelligence.

Kathleen M. Mahan is a partner at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder, LLP in Manchester, NH. She is a business litigator who resolves disputes for corporate executives and business owners of all kinds. Kate is known for her work on a wide range of intellectual property matters including trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights as well as business disputes related to corporate governance, non-compete conflicts, contract actions and other professional disagreements. She received her J.D. from Suffolk University and her B.A. from Saint Anselm College. Kate is currently Vice President of the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Board of Governors and a member of the New Hampshire Bar Foundation Board of Directors, and the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Committee on Cooperation with the Courts. She also is a long time member of the Daniel Webster-Batchelder Inns of Court. Outside the legal profession, she serves on the board of her local food pantry, as well as on the Saint Anselm College Alumni Council.

Mary Smith served as president of the American Bar Association from 2023 to 2024, becoming the first Native American woman to hold this role. She currently serves on the board of PTC Therapeutics, Inc., a global biopharmaceutical company, where she is a member of the audit and compensation committees. Previously, Smith was the CEO of the Indian Health Service, a $6 billion national healthcare system serving over two million people. Smith’s legal career includes roles as an attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP, as senior in-house counsel at Tyco International, and as associate counsel to the President in the White House. She also served as a trial attorney at the US Department of Justice. Additionally, she is also the founder and president of the Caroline and Ora Smith Foundation, an organization that trains and supports Native American girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Her achievements have earned her numerous awards and recognitions, including being named to Forbes 50 over 50 list in 2024, recognized as a 2023 Director to Watch, and receiving the 2023 Cherokee National Statesmanship Award.
