NH Bar Association Seminar Room, Concord
120 Ethics Minutes
Description
Just like Woody and Buzz learned, every good partnership has a beginning, a middle, and eventually a farewell. This training explores the ethical considerations that arise throughout the full lifecycle of the attorney–client relationship—from the first call to the final letter and even beyond.
Participants will discuss how to spot “red flag” clients during intake, avoid accidentally forming an attorney–client relationship, and set clear communication boundaries (including texting and informal messaging). The program will also address navigating difficult situations, including when it may be time to part ways with a client.
Finally, the session will cover properly closing a matter and managing file retention obligations after representation ends. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to ensure their client relationships stay ethical from the moment a client says, “You’ve got a lawyer” to the final “So long, partner.”
For those attending in person - once the CLE is over, please join members of the NHBA Committee on Lawyer Referral Services and NHBA Staff for a delicious barbeque and networking. This post-CLE event will be held in the NHBA's Member Center on the 3rd Floor from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
